The Pico de Zarza is the highest point in Fuerteventura. Located at the southern tip of the island, in the beautiful peninsula of Jandia, it has an altitude of 800 metres and you can reach it by walking a natural path that takes roughly 3 hours, with medium difficulty.
The route, approximately a 5 hours round trip, is a favourite for nature lovers in Fuerteventura as it has variety of landscapes, wildlife and vegetation, as well as breathtaking views of the beaches of Cofete.
Ideally, this route is to be done on a cloudy day and be well prepared with water, sun lotion and light food as the whole trip is made under the sun and there is nowhere to rest in the shade.
The start of the route is near the roundabout of Morro Jable and it always runs uphill, with some steeper bits than others, so it is a demanding path but also very grateful: It can be covered quickly and the incredible views can be admired from the beginning. However, it is at the peak, and as a reward, that you can appreciate the most incredible landscapes. A view of the entire peninsula, with beautiful images of the endless beaches of Jandia, are a well worth reward for the efforts.
If we stay in a hotel in Playa de Jandia, it is very likely that they can prepare a good picnic to enjoy at the summit of Pico de Zarza, to recover some energy from the effort.
