Fuerteventura: is the best water sport destination in Spain? (Part II)

As mentioned in the previous article, you should choose a hotel in a popular water sports area of Fuerteventura, so can easily access most important water sports places.

Which are the best areas to practice sport? We recommend you here the best places to practice diving, surfing and sailing in Fuerteventura.

Where to practice each sport?

If you like diving, you should stay in the south of the island. Stay at a hotel in Playa Jandia and enjoy it to the fullest while you dive on crystal waters and discover amazing fishes and sea animals.

If you like windsurfing or surfing, you should go to the north side. Corralejo is the perfect destination where you can find charming towns and one of the most famous natural parks in Spain: Dunas de Corralejo.

Near Corralejo, you will find one of the best places to practice surfing in Europe with prestigious schools (like Point Break Water) and professional surf clubs like RedShark, one of the most popular surf clubs in the world.

Finally, for those who like quiet sports: catamaran, paddle surf or kayak are great options. Catatrips in Playa Jandia are experts in catamaran tours in this area.

You can enjoy a kayak tour anywhere on the island. You can rent it in the coast.

If you want to stay in Jandia area, check the availability of the 3 Iberostar hotels in Playa Jandia. I stayed at Fuerteventura Palace as I was looking for a relaxing holiday and it has an Only Adults area. The other two are addressed to families with children with 4-star services and affordable prices.

You can directly book these hotels online at guaranteed lowest prices. Check also the hotels offers and affordable packages:

Fuerteventura: best water sport destination in Spain? (Part I)

Fuerteventura is one of the best destinations for athletes, especially water sports lovers. It has been considered for experts as the windsurf world capital. Fuerteventura’s great weather makes it a popular destination to practice surf in Europe.

But,…is it enough more than 300 days of sunny weather per year, an appropriate wind and some of the best beaches in Spain?

How I discovered Fuerteventura and the best places to practice sports

There are many places where to practice sports in Fuerteventura. I’m not a professional athlete but as a writer and journalist specialized in sports and tourism I asked myself: is Fuerteventura the best place in the world to practice surfing, windsurfing or diving?

Where to stay if you want to practice sports

Many people think the best place to stay in Fuerteventura is the south, but some people think the beaches in the north are great. Southern Fuerteventura is great for amateurs as the wind power and the level of the Atlantic Ocean waves are perfect. Moreover, best hotels are located in the south of Fuerteventura in front of the nicest beaches. Costa Calma, Playa Gaviotas and El Matorral beach are some of the best places you should visit if you are looking for a good surf camp or a diving centre.

Hotels like Iberostar Fuerteventura Palace in front of Playa Jandia with great Only Adult and couples services; Playa Gaviotas Park in the south of the island and really close to El Matorral beach where you can admire the popular shipwreck of the American Star (it’s surprising because it almost never rains in Fuerteventura, and 30 years ago there was a big storm); and the fabulous Iberostar Playa Gaviotas an All Inclusive resort in Playa Jandia with a great sports offer.

It’s important the hotel offers a wide range of sports facilities as you will need intensive training in order to face your sports day. Hotels with fitness centre or sports tracks are perfect. I stayed at Iberostar Fuerteventura Palace and it was great because of its fantastic relax areas, which are perfect after your tiring sports day.

Southern Tenerife: you cannot miss…

Southern Tenerife is one of the must-see places in the planet. Whether you like the beach or the countryside, all your needs will be satisfied in this destination in order you to enjoy your holidays to the fullest: relax at an idyllic beach, walk and discover secret towns or immerse yourself in the nature, climbing hills and volcanoes.

The main attractions are the long sandy beaches along the coast, the natural areas of Adeje’s town as Barranco del Infierno, near Teide’s mountain, or the natural beauty of Los Gigantes’ cliff.

The list of places to visit and activities to do in the south of Tenerife is just endless, so we have selected some of the must-see places you should visit on a short holiday break. Write them down because you will surely enjoy them in summer:

El Medano.- Small fishermen town with its traditional charm and excellent touristic services. It’s really close to Reina Sofia Airport (also called South Tenerife Airport), with great family atmosphere and one of the most popular places for water sport lovers, especially windsurfers. There are many interesting places nearby, like Arenas del Mar, the natural area of Montaña Pelada, La Tejita and Montaña Roja, where you can admire impressive sunsets.

Los Abrigos.-The most popular place for golf lovers in Tenerife. There are two golf courses nearby: Amarilla Golf and Golf del Sur, both located by the Atlantic Ocean, offering those who practice golf amazing views. It’s really close to Las Chafarinas and El Guincho, where we can taste the local delicious gastronomy.

Costa del Silencio.- If we explore the coast from Los Abrigos to Los Cristianos, one of the most touristic places, we will find some popular areas like Costa del Silencio and Las Galletas. From Montaña Amarilla by the sea to inland Costa del Silencio, there are many secret coves, almost isolated and unspoiled in the coastal cliffs created due to the ocean erosion. It’s one of the most special places for your romantic or relaxing getaway to Tenerife.

Los Cristianos.- This holiday destination is sheltered by Montaña de Guaza, one of the largest natural areas in the south coast of Tenerife. A lively family area that always has high occupancy rates in the middle of summer with excellent services for travellers who want to enjoy their holidays to the fullest, great connections with the beach area of Playa de las Americas (another high occupancy destination) and endless beaches for kids.

Las Americas.- One of the best places to enjoy your holidays with a pure summery and relaxing atmosphere in Tenerife. Lively and dynamic both by night and by day. It’s a great place to stay whether you are travelling with your family, friends or couple as it is full of bars, terraces, nightclubs, gourmet places and where you can enjoy water sports.

Costa Adeje.- This holiday destination is between Las Americas and Los Gigantes cliff. It differs from the previous areas in the upper class tourists visiting Costa Adeje, who look for high quality services. For this reason, we can find many luxury hotels and resorts in this area. We must stand out some of them like the hotels of IBEROSTAR Hotels & Resorts with a wide range of accommodations, offering a hotel for every type of traveler: IBEROSTAR Grand Hotel Salome (Only Adult), IBEROSTAR Grand Hotel El Mirador or IBEROSTAR Anthelia (5-star family hotel, which has been recognized as the best All-Inclusive hotel in Spain).

You cannot miss…
