ATH Hotels: a chain of specialised accommodations

In this post we will talk about the ATH hotel chain, a hotel company that has opened a complete group of hotels specialised in different business publics. Every accommodation has the typical hallmarks of its firm, such as the personalised attention and the attention to detail. But, besides, every hotel is specialised in some specific sector such as events organisation, services for families or wellness facilities.

While other hotel chains are betting on the expansion in a particular area, ATH has been opening its hotels in different points of the country. Additionally, it covers all kinds of destinations. For example, it has in the Balearic Islands the ATH Binivell Park Apartments, family apartments located in Minorca.

Another beach destination is ATH Portomagno, a spa hotel in front of the sea in Almería, specialised in families, as well as in the organisation of all types of events.

In Almería, it also has a beachfront hotel in Roquetas de Mar, ATH Las Salinas Park.

This accommodation is also designed for the same business public, although in this case it has not meeting rooms.

In beach destinations, the chain also possesses the ATH Gran Hotel Samil, an emblematic hotel situated on the seafront in Vigo, in the famous Samil beach, in front of the Cies Islands.

On the other hand, this chain has two accommodations in Andalusia that, despite being different from each other, they share the same Andalusian traditional taste that you can feel in the hotels’ decor. One of them is ATH Al-Medina Wellness, a cosy spa hotel in Cádiz, located in Median Sidonia. In Seville, we also find the ATH Santa Bárbara Sevilla, full of warmth and with a beautiful typically Sevillian courtyard.

In Barcelona, this chain has other two hotels specialised, in this case, in the organisation of events in hotels of Barcelona. One of them is the ATH City Park Sant Just, a modern 4 star rated hotel specially designed for business travellers, tourists, weddings, celebrations and incentive trips. ATH City Park Pelayo is another modern hotel next to Las Ramblas, targeted at people travelling for business and for pleasure.

The chain has also a hotel in Extremadura, ATH Cañada Real Plasencia, a charming hotel situated in Malpartida de Plasencia, with services specialised in conferences, banquets and celebrations.

A wellness trip to Andorra

Since many years ago, Andorra is one of the pioneering destinations in wellness tourism. A lot of people travel every year to the Principality motivated by the desire of enjoying wellness, health and beauty treatments in some of its thermal-leisure centres.

Caldea is the most famous centre in Andorra and the biggest one placed in the European mountains, although there are many other mountain wellness centres and spa resorts offering these services and treatments. Actually, in the last years there are more and more spas and hotels trying to be in the vanguard of wellness treatments due to the great demand in Andorra.

In 2013, Inúu was opened, the new wellness centre attached to Caldea (both belonging to the same society) which has got a foothold with its innovative “Wellness Attitude” concept. While Caldea offers services and treatments more focused on groups and families, Inúu is designed for customers who want to enjoy the facilities with the partner or alone, creating a closer and more peaceful atmosphere.

Both centres stock up from the hot springs of Escaldes-Engordany, but they offer services and especially different atmospheres. In Inúu you breath peacefulness and calm allowing to reach the high point of relaxation. In Caldea, guests forget its worries and enjoy the water with their family.

The best thing of the thermal leisure centres is that you can enjoy them during the whole year. In winter, they are the ideal way to finish a day after being skiing, and in summer they are the perfect complement to practice adventure sports or a day of tourism by the Principality.

Benidorm, a city full of hotel tradition

Benidorm could be one of the tourist destinations that produce both positive and negative emotions. It arouses my curiosity to realize this destination in Costa Blanca has many supporters as detractors. The fact is that although Benidorm has a bad image, it is still one of the Spanish tourist destinations with best occupancy rates.

This city in the coast of Alicante has always been characterised by being a representative sun and beach destination, which has given and still gives many benefits. During the 70’s there was a strong demand of spaces for hotels, entailing a fast building of hotels and giving rise to the famous skyline of this city.

Nowadays, Benidorm is still one of the destinations that can boast an excellent level of hotel occupancy. All this despite the bad image of the society of this city. For many, Benidorm is a crowded beach destination, riddled with drunk Englishmen and hotels without personality. But the truth is that Benidorm is much more than that.

The tourism industry of this city of Alicante has made a big effort to modernise the hotels of Benidorm and bring them up to date. This has caused a diversification of its tourism product, increasing the specialization and the variety of hotels ranges.

Besides the effort of renovating and positioning the hotels, the supplementary offer in Benidorm has been substantially increased with a considerable offer of restaurants and leisure, contributing to the success of this destination.

It is worth mentioning that Benidorm has traditionally characterised by offering very competitive prices, both in hotels and in supplementary services. This is probably one of the reasons by which many people go back.

Benidorm is a city conceived of for leisure. And, no matter who may disagree, this destination attracts year after year a huge quantity of tourists seduced by its tourism product, by its beautiful and warm beaches and by its pleasant Mediterranean weather.

Top destinations in Europe for this summer

If you are considering holidays in Europe for this summer, below you will find four word pictures about the main European destinations for this 2014, a selection that gathers the classics such as Greece and its striking islands, the marvellous Croatia coast and the emblematic large cities such as Hamburg. Beach or city, you choose what you want for this summer.

Holidays in Greece

It is always a wise choice. Greece, despite being experiencing an intense economic crisis, is still one of the main centres of tourist attraction in the world.  Favourite enclave for travellers from central Europe for escaping from the routine and enjoying the sun, it offers one of the best spots for relaxing and resting: its islands. Some of the star accommodations in the Greek islands belongs, precisely, to Spanish chains. Stand out, for example, Iberostar’s hotels in Crete: Creta Marine Hotel and Creta Panorama Mare Hotel.

Croatia for adventurers

Since some years ago, Croatia has become one of the main summer holiday destinations in Europe. House of one of the most extensive and pristine coasts of the Adriatic, it is perfect for adventure travel lovers since, besides parties, cuisine and beach, it offers a natural environment full of possibilities.  In regard to accommodation, the country has really improved, offering family resorts in Umag, beach hotels close to Dubrovnik and apartments in emblematic islands such as Krk.

The treasure of the Black Sea Bulgaria

Sunny Beach, in the coast of Bulgaria, is one of the most recommended enclaves for holidays in the Black Sea. Boasting complete services and a large top level network of accommodations, this locality located close to the famous Burgas and Nessebar cities, is perfect for a sun and beach getaway without missing a great deal of culture and folklore. For staying, booking a beach resort in Sunny Beach is the best option, since it allows you to enjoy the entire region in a comfortable and easy way.

Jerez in summer

The Andalusian city of Jerez is one of the fashionable destinations in this 2014. Full of life and cultural and cuisine proposals, in the summer months this city becomes the centre of attention thanks to its nearness to the marvellous Cádiz beaches and its lively social life. Streets full of terraces, wines routes, the impressive landscape surrounding it and the history of its people and monuments compose an eclectic trip plan designed for curious minds seeking something more than beach. When you book an accommodation, to make the most of the city centre and its surroundings, the best option is choosing a well connected hotel in Jerez.

Eternal Majorca

The island of calm can not be missed in a list of summer holidays destinations. But on this occasion, we suggest to you a more urban trip, a stay in its capital, Palma, that since some years ago is firmly working to offer a complete alternative of a typical sun and beach trip. Booking a hotel in the centre of Palma, next to the Paseo Marítimo and its main commercial streets are perfect for enjoying the new fashionable neighbourhoods of the city. Santa Catalina, Ciudad Antigua, Blanquerna… And, from time to time, escaping to its coves and paradise beaches.

The magic of the old Ibiza

Ibiza city, known as Vila by the locals, is the heart that provides the essence to the rest of the island. Although Ibiza has become famous mainly for its nighlife and its beautiful coves, its old city is one of its most important and most appreciated patrimonial pillars that attract the travellers visiting the island in search of something beyond the music, sun and beach.

Dalt Vila is, strictly speaking, the old quarter of Ibiza. It is placed on a hill from where the city was protected in the past, offering marvellous views of the Mediterranean. Just by the fact of getting closer, the old quarter of Ibiza receives the visitor with majestic walls and Renaissance doors. Inside you will find the main building of the old city –whose construction dates from the XVI century and is considered World Heritage Site together with the rest of the historic ensemble in Dalt Vila.

Other of the outstanding buildings in the area is the Bishop’s Palace, the old Dominican convent -now City Hall- and the big castle overlooking the sea from its battlements.

Walking by this area in Ibiza, allows the visitor to find authentic architectural treasures with a typical Mediterranean style, as well as significant historic sites or one of the most important Mediterranean harbours.

Streets are narrow and devious, studded with bars and chill out pubs honouring  the hippy spirit that reigns in the island. The tradition, the craftsmanship and the soul of this city are in small workshops and local shops facing the passing of the years and keeping their doors open, despite the pressure from other more modern and franchisee establishments.

Finding cheap hotels in this area is difficult since the offer, generally, are small boutique hotels with few services and high prices. If you want to stay near to the centre of Ibiza, the best thing is opting for hotels in D’en Bossa Beach, since it is an area perfectly connected with the centre during the whole day by public transport.

Marina Panorama Hotel

Marina Panorama Hotel

Actually, the connections are relatively good from almost every point of the island, even if you book a hotel in Cala Portinatx (one of the most distant areas), you could arrive to the centre of Vila in about 30 minutes.

Another accommodation option is finding hotel in Santa Eularia, looking for an apartment in Es Canar Beach or booking a room in Cala Nova, close to San Carlos. In this case, even though it is not next to the centre, it is a good opportunity to know something else about Ibiza and enjoy holidays at an acceptable budget.

Traditional cuisine of Jandia, a sea-flavoured pleasure

The typical and traditional cuisine in Jandia is essentially made of sea products, result of an historic link that, even with less force and dependence, keeps closely defining the economy of this southern area in Fuerteventura.  Eating in this area is very affordable and the quality of dishes is usually high, especially in the restaurants closest to the harbours in the towns.

Precisely, this peninsula in the south of Fuerteventura boasts some of the most emblematic fishing villages of the island, such as Morro Jable, located in one of the most amazing seaboards in the Canary Islands.

Here you will find many of the best restaurants offering fresh fish and shellfishes from Fuerteventura. Although you can always find in their menus traditional dishes such as gofio, papas arrugás and sancocho, the specialities are usually linked to this fishing tradition that can still be felt in its streets and which feeds on its harbour: fish barbecues, rice with shellfish, fresh fried fishes…

Restaurants such as La Laja and La Cofradia, in the Morro Jable harbour, use so traditional products such as the tuna salad, the octopus and the most requested, the trays with small fried fishes costing around 10 Euros.

The most usual fishes in the south of Fuerteventura are the vieja or the parrotfish, the Moray eel, and the grouper (with which is made a delicious stew in this area). The shellfish and octopus are usually more expensive, but even so, its freshness and quality are worth it. As accompaniment, restaurants always bet on cooked or steamed potatoes, or salads.

Soups and stocks, despite the warm weather, also appear in the menu. Nevertheless, they use to be light and made of simple products, always conceived as the first course. Desserts are less surprising, even so, it is very interesting to taste the predominant type of fruit –almost always exotic, such as the papaya and mangos– and it is always important to try at least one time the classic frangollo made of goat milk, very typical in the south of Fuerteventura.

If you stay in a hotel next to the Jandia beach or in Morro Jable, do not hesitate to combine the food of the restaurant of your hotel in Fuerteventura with a dinner outside and savour some of these delicious proposals. To get right, the best thing is to go with the flow, to nibble in some pub and take advice from the restaurant staff: they are the experts.

5 places to get lost in the Jandia peninsula

The Jandia Peninsula, in the southern most area of Fuerteventura, is one of the most lovely places in the world and, its territory, marked by the presence of a unique natural environment –the Jandia park–, hides unforgettable not to be missed spots… Or, rather, spots to get lost and enjoy. In order to not miss a thing, here you have a selection of 5 places of interest to see in Jandia:

Cofete beach: Most of the travellers and natives agree that this is one of, if not the most, lovely beaches in Fuerteventura. It is not the most ideal for swimming with children since it is situated in an area with very strong tides and currents, but it is worth seeing. At least to appreciate the immense beauty of its landscape.

Caleta de la Madera: It is one of those cliffs that take your breath away. It is located very close to the Cofete Beach and there are excursions in all this area towards it. The height is considerable, so those afraid of heights must be careful, but it is a very safe area with wonderful views of the Atlantic.

Fuerteventura Beaches

Fuerteventura Beaches

Los Canarios Viewpoint: Continuing the tour in the Jandia park, we find more places with marvellous views. This natural reserve boasts one of the most beautiful balconies overlooking the Atlantic and one of those is, specifically, the famous Los Canarios viewpoint: from there you can contemplate the highest mountains in Fuerteventura and the Cofete beach.

Esquinzo Beach: If paradise has a name, it is without a doubt Esquinzo. The coast of this locality near to Morro Jable is one of the most beautiful ones, since it offers smooth cliffs bordered by white sand beaches, a few rocks and perfect waves for practising all kinds of water sports.

El Matorral Beach: Situated in the surroundings of several family hotels in Jandia, it is one of the most famous beaches in the south of Fuerteventura.  More frequented than Cofete thanks to its good accessibility, it is also a very natural beach that has undergone an intense process of recovery of its environment. It offers two sectors: one for families and other for nature lovers.

To find accommodation in Jandia, it is recommendable to visit the official websites of the beach hotels in Jandia, since most of them offer interesting promotions, especially for those travelling with children or planning a stay for, at least, a week in the island.

Area plenty of hotels for children in Jandia and Costa Calma, next to the Morro Jable town, which are a tourist reference in the entire Fuerteventura. The variety and the good price-quality relation of the accommodations have turn this area into an essential tourist centre in the entire Canary archipelago.
