Santanyi and Campos, municipalities with charm and ecological richness.

Although most of the tourism in Mallorca is concentrated on the southwestern and northern areas of the island, the southeastern municipalities are of great tourist interest, specially the townships of Campos and Santanyi.

Campos’s economy is based primarily on agriculture, which has given rise to a series of fairs and livestock exhibitions which are held throughout the year. In fact, next weekend Sa Rapita 2013 festivities start with photography exhibitions, Majorcan dances, parades or even chess tournaments.

Sa Rapita is one of the urban centres of Campos, it is a coastal village formed by detached and semi-detached houses located at the seafront and close to some of the most beautiful beaches in Mallorca, among them Sa Rapita, Es Trec or Ses Covetes. Besides, the village of Sa Rapita is surrounded by virgin areas with trekking routes which will allow you to discover one of the best coastal areas in Mallorca. In the Marina Skorpios Hotel you will be able to combine this trekking offer with a wide sport and entertainment activity programme which will make your holidays in the southwest of Mallorca a total success.

Unlike Campos, Santanyi’s economy is based on a combination of the tourist activities centred in Cala D’or, Portopetro and Cala Figuera and the industry of handcrafted stone, used in many of the typical Majorcan buildings. In Santanyi we  find a wide range of archeological sites and typical Majorcan circular “talaiots”, among them the Talaiot de Son Danus, Talaia des Carnitx or Calonge necropolis.

Also in Santanyi we find one of the many natural spaces of the Balearic Islands, Mondrago Natural Park, an special area for the protection of birds and of great ecological richness. Cultural visit to Palma de Mallorca

Palma de Majorca was founded in 123 B.C by a Roman consul and finally conquered by Jaime de Aragon in 1229, when the city was declared “Ciutat de Mallorca”. Such a long history has left the city full of emblematic buildings and places to visit, from a stunning cathedral to a network of peculiar streets.

Palma bay welcomes you with the astonishing Palma Cathedral or “La Seu”, which was built in 1229 after the conquest of the city. It is a gothic cathedral with the biggest gothic rose window in the world, formed by 1236 crystal pieces. The southern orientation of the cathedral creates a light show in November and February, when the rose window reflects on the other side of the cathedral.

Few metres away from the cathedral we find La Lonja, another of the gothic Majorcan buildings built between 1420 and 1452 and which was the Merchants’ Association headquarters. Nowadays La Lonja can only be visited when an artistic exposition is held, the rest of the time the building remains closed to the public.

If you want to relax and rest in an idyllic place after our cultural visit to Palma bay we recommend you check the Marina Luz Hotel offers, with discounts and special prices that will allow you to enjoy the Mediterranean to the maximum. The hotel is located in Cala Estancia, only 8 km away from another of the tourist attractions in Palma: the Arab Bathrooms. It is one of the few archaeologic sites of Muslim architecture that have been preserved in Mallorca, and it consists of a room for hot baths, although the cold baths room remains haven’t been found. The visit has a modest price of 2€ and the building is open to the public throughout the year.

But if you want to visit an authentic spa and make the most of your holidays, take advantage of the only adults services of the Marina Luz Hotel, where you will have access to a spa with sea views, a solarium terrace and relaxing swimming pools. Furthermore, the Marina Luz Hotel features only adults rooms in Mallorca.
