Travelling to the centre of Madrid

We set ourself in the Kilometre 0 of Madrid, the central point from which the first 6 radial roads begun and today it is a central meeting point for tourists and locals. This small tile placed in front of the iconic Casa de Correos, is a symbol of Madrid as well as so many unmistakable icons we find at the Puerta del Sol.

Full of past and present stories, the Puerta del Sol is much more than the centre of Madrid, it is its vital core, the heart, the place where you begin to discover Madrid and through which to understand much of the essence of the capital.

Kilometro zero madrid

The Puerta del Sol has been and continues to be the scene of great moments in the history of Spain: from here the first metro line departed, in it Spain welcomes the New Year and from it all who live and visit the city can walk into its streets, filled with many secrets, and the great commercial streets.

On one side, the famous statue of the Bear and the Strawberry Tree opens the door to the shopping area of Preciados and offers itself as a meeting point for young people every weekend. The sculpture is reflected in the shield of the city and, over the years, has become an icon of the city.

Bear statute and Strawberry tree Madrid

On the other side, the large Casa de Correos occupies a privileged space that has given it the opportunity to be, over the years, the venue for locating numerous institutions and government bodies, from the Ministry of Interior to the Presidency of the Community of Madrid.

The Casa de Correos, designed by architect Jaime Marquet, is responsible for the beauty of the Puerta del Sol: in order to host the many Ministries it was required that it there was a high level of security so they proceeded to demolish the houses and buildings that surrounded the building,  resulting in this great space that today is centre of pilgrimage for all who visit Madrid.

Casa Correos Puerta Sol Madrid

Besides being the oldest building in the square of Puerta del Sol, the Casa de Correos holds the clock tower that is responsible for announcing, with its famous bells, the entry into the New Year and that gathers thousands of people every 31 December to celebrate on its streets.

If you’re thinking of a trip to Madrid, we propose a short list of unique hotels in Puerta del Sol. A real journey to the centre of Madrid.

Discovering the Canarian gastronomy

The Canary Islands are well known for their marvellous weather, carnivals, the sea and beautiful beaches, its national parks and its friendly people, but the well kept secret is, undoubtedly, its gastronomy.

The gastronomy of the Canary Islands combines the heritage of their ancient Bereber, known as Guanche, who introduced herds of goats and sheep, dates and figs, as well as the cultivation of barley, which is used to make gofio, a roasted barley used in the preparation of many traditional dishes.

Canarian gastronomy

The conquest of the Canary Islands by the Crown of Castilla turned the islands into an obligatory stop for the vessels en route to the Americas, and this influence reflected on the cuisine, like the use of potatoes and corn and the typical cocidos from the Spanish mainland.

To this, you must add the abundant sea products, especially fish and seafood from the Atlantic. Typical dishes include the lapas with mojo verde, octopus with vegetables and spatter fried sardines.

We can not forget the goat cheese, such as the queso palmero from La Palma or the queso majonero Fuerteventura.

Mencey's Cookery Classroom

All this washed down with wines from the Canary Islands, which date back to the times of the Spanish conquest, and where the white wines stand out with varieties like Listan Blanco, Malvasia and Moscatel. Currently there are up to 10 D.O’s in the Canarys.

To enjoy the rich and varied Canarian cuisine, the best option is to visit what is probably the best hotel gastronomic Tenerife, the Iberostar Grand Hotel Mencey. This hotel is committed to offer quality food and the result is the restaurant La Cocina del Mencey and Mencey Cookery Classroom. Leading this gastronomic project is the renowned chef Juan Carlos Clemente.

The news of the Restaurant La Cocina del Mencey include:

· Cooking courses led by Chef Juan Carlos Clemente.

· Cooking Contests organised by the Iberostar Grand Hotel Mencey.

· Private lunches and dinners for up to 14 people.

· Events and celebrations with live show cooking.

Affordable destinations for this summer 2013

The 2013 summer season is just around the corner, full of promises of sun, beach, relaxation and tranquility for some, fun, adventure and partying for others. Spain is one of the countries most demanded both by foreigners and locals, year after year, that decide to spend their holidays in more affordable destinations, comfortable and suitable for all needs.

Beach holidays hotels

Southern Europe has been, for many years, a must for many and Spain has a leading position in  touristic regions such as the Balearic Islands and the Canary Islands, which are sold out every July and August.

Finding a hotel for friends in Majorca, a resort for families in Minorca or a hotel in Santa Cruz de Tenerife is no easy task if one does not take advantage of Early Booking reservations that are offered by different hotel chains: the best accommodations often have much of their rooms booked by the end of May to June.

Summer beach holidays

But, besides the great Spanish summer classics, such as the all inclusive holidays in Calas de Conil (Cadiz) or in Torremolinos, in recent times some destinations have returned to the spot light for those of us searching for something affordable but without sacrificing the whims you expect during a holiday.

The hotels in Cadiz that stand out are the beach resorts in Playa La Barrosa and the holiday resorts of Fuengirola (Malaga). Also, Huelva and all its coast of long sandy beaches, has been climbing positions as one of the hot destinations for this summer 2013, with great hotel promotions in El Rompido or the All Inclusive resort in Islantilla, surrounded by natural areas perfect for both the practice of sport and sunbathing in the sand.

On the summer 2013 list are also the destinations and hotels on the coast of Almeria, as is the case of the recently inaugurated resorts in El Toyo, few steps away from the beach and with a wide range of spa and sports within the hotel. And, without sacrificing a bit of charm, Ibiza and its magnificent hotels in Santa Eulalia and Sant Antoni, is still the best destination in Spain which combines sun and celebration for the young and couples.

Suites Hotel Jardin del Sol: a luxury only for adults

Romantic getaways have reached, in recent times, a special dimension: services have become increasingly specialised for couples. Adults only hotels

Mallorca is one of those always welcoming destinations for those seeking a romantic space to relax, with good weather, sun, beach but also a complementary cultural offer allowing versatile holiday for all tastes.

Within the vast range of hotels that this popular Mediterranean island offers to travellers, it is especially outstanding an Adults Only hotel in Mallorca, located in the Bay of Santa Ponsa: the Iberostar Suites Hotel Jardin del Sol, of the Mallorca hotel chain Iberostar Hotels & Resorts.

Hotel Iberostar Mallorca

This accommodation for adults is a complete 4 star hotel recently renovated, with state of the art services and a singularity ideal for a weekend with your couple: all rooms have a jacuzzi and a large private terrace.

Situated almost on the sea in one of the most beautiful coasts of Mallorca, the admired Costa de la Calma, the Suites Hotel Jardin del Sol has one of the most modern spa and wellness facilities in Mallorca: the Spa Sensations THAI ZEN, with personalised treatments and facilities designed to the smallest detail.

This is completed with a varied gastronomic offer and an extensive cocktail bar, ready for guests to enjoy the exceptional sunsets seen from this point on the coast.

Family holidays to Fuengirola

If there is a perfect coastal area for intimate and quiet family holidays that is Fuengirola. This town of Malaga, known for its huge sandy beaches and excellent climate, is one of the favourite destinations to travel with children as it combines safety, attractions for children and a full range of activities for parents.

Family holidays Fuengirola

Book a hotel right on the beach in Fuengirola, rent a car for trips around the beautiful surroundings, buy tickets for a day at the water park or book some surfing, diving or sailing lessons. These are some of the activities and services available and are affordable and fun for the whole family.

Hotels with wellness centre in Fuengirola are also a good alternative, especially if children are older and can entertain themselves freely in the mini club or taking a sailing lesson while the parents enjoy a day of relaxation and care for the body and soul.

Family hotels Fuengirola

The natural environment, the warmth of the locals, the cultural offer and the comfort of beaches like Los Boliches – with all kinds of additional services, are some of the key elements that have made Fuengirola one of the most interesting destinations for families in the south of Spain.

To all this, you can include a looked after and taste gastronomy, typical of the south of Spain: fish, vegetables and fruits, roasted and grilled meats, good olive oil, white wine and that special touch that is part of Andalusian culture.

Many hotel chains in the area, such as Confortel Hotels, have managed to include this charm to its services, directing their hotels to a constant personalisation and trying to provide specialised proposals for its main client: families.

Destinations 2013: Sardinia

The Italian island of Sardinia is one of the best kept paradises in the Mediterranean: full of light and surrounded by a sea of thousands of different blue tonalities it welcomes travellers to a space of relaxation, well being and adventure.

Sardinia beach, Italy

Located east of the Italian peninsula and west of the Balearic Islands, Sardinia is as said by its own people, “nearly a continent”, as the diversity of its landscape covers all types of geography, from the sea to beautiful lakes, valleys and mountains, wide rivers, pale plains, and abundant mediterranean forests.

The high degree of conservation of its environment, where the protected natural area Marine Park of Tavolara stands out, and the quality of its turquoise waters has converted it, year after year, in a privileged holiday destination. In addition, the brightness of its people, their simplicity and the characteristic culture of its people.

Map Italy Sardinia

In Sardinia, travellers can find almost everything: archaeology, history, local crafts, children’s attractions, sports, coves that can only be reached by sea and a gastronomy worthy of the best gourmets.

Choosing a hotel in Sardinia with charm is one of the best options to fully enjoy the true essence of this delicate island. One of the most looked after hotel proposals in Sardinia is part of the spanish hotel chain Iberostar Hotels & Resorts, the iconic Iberostar Carlos V hotel, a 5 star accommodation in Alghero, with special services for holidays with children. One of the most iconic brands in such hotels for children is Sol Hotels with its well known and praised Flintstones Hotels, some of which are in the Mediterranean such as the Sol Antillas Barbados (Mallorca), the All Inclusive Sol Falco (Menorca ) and Sol Pelicanos Ocas (Alicante).

Discovering the island of Fuenteventura

If you’re looking for a sun and beach holiday, Fuerteventura is your ideal destination.

This beautiful Canary Island has some of the best beaches in Spain, is a perfect place to relax and, if sport is your passion, windsurfing will be a dream come true.

Fuerteventura has endless beaches of fine sand and clear waters; natural parks such as the Dunas of Corralejo or typical tourist areas such as the long beach of Jandia.

One of the things that you can observe for yourself is that, despite being a highly visited island, Fuerteventura retains its essence in towns like Antigua or Puerto del Rosario with typical architecture including churches, castles and museums that make up for a very interesting tourist tour.

And of course, there is the tasty Canarian cuisine. Fish, seafood and typical dishes such as the baifo, chicharro, vieja… which dressed with ‘mojo picon’ await you in a destination like Fuerteventura.

Rooms at the Hotel Iberostar Fuerteventura Palace, the services of the Hotel Iberostar Playa Gaviotas and offers of Hotel Iberostar Playa Gaviotas Park are some of the proposals that we recommend to start your holidays in Fuerteventura.

Barcelona, city of design

Barcelona is the city of design. Known for this for many year now, this cosmopolitan Mediterranean city has built up a multifaceted image of taste, style and innovation that surrounds it and has become, in the eyes of the world, one of the most significant creative spheres in the planet.

Design Barcelona

With its roots based on the sea and industry, the city has always been entrepreneurial, hardworking and at the same time had a special feeling for beauty and art, the city has been home to many iconic and revolutionary artists: Gaudí, Miró, Pablo Casals, Josep Carreras… and even Picasso who, despite being Malaga, spent much time in the city.

The architecture of the city is one of the best examples of its weakness for modern, innovative and cutting edge design: from public buildings, such as museums or markets, to private properties and hotels and apartments in the centre of Barcelona. All makes up this Barcelona of design and offer a distinctive view of the city, open areas that seek to be unique, remembered by all who pass by his side or live in them.

If you are preparing a cultural trip to Barcelona, please review the entire offer of hotels that you can find in Barcelona. The variety is endless and hotels range from charming accommodations in a newly renovated historic building to design apartments in La Boqueria, with state of the art services.
